Meteor

Film Essay (Short)

Meteor examines voluntary renunciation and escape as subversive practices in the context of the celebrity-spectacle complex and the economy of attention. The essay juxtaposes a biopic of Macaulay Culkin up to the moment he gave up acting and the letters written by Arthur Rimbaud after he abandoned literature. Drawing exclusively on found footage from YouTube, Meteor undertakes a critique of the politics of absolute transparency and the commodification of the self.
